Right to Consume?
Just a thought about what green consumerism is, isn’t, should or shouldn’t be.
In reading about green consumerism I have found that a disagreement exists about whether it is an answer or solution to problems of sustainability.
Green consumerism is the idea that an individual should and can choose to buy products made within fda approved ‘organic’ practices or within other sustainable, global-impact minded practices.
Green consumerism is not the idea that we should consume less.
Green consumerism should be thought of as a capitalistic corporate practice that says the individual should be responsible for making the world a healthy place and that corporations should not shift their practices too much if it doesn’t make money.
Green consumerism shouldn’t be seen as a solution.
